Comfort, Companionship and a Wagging Tail: Pet Therapy at Limewood
At Limewood Care Home, we’re always exploring meaningful ways to support the emotional and mental well-being of our residents and few things bring quite as much joy as a visit from Max, our beautiful therapy dog.
The Joy of Therapy Dog Visits
During July, Max joined us for a couple of special sessions and it’s safe to say he made a lasting impression. With his calm nature, gentle manner and wagging tail, Max brought smiles to every corner of the home. Whether resting his head in someone’s lap, sitting patiently for a stroke or simply padding gently around the lounge, his presence created a calming atmosphere that everyone could enjoy.
The Benefits of Pet Therapy in Care
Pet therapy is more than just a moment of delight. For many residents, it sparks conversation, encourages reminiscence and provides comfort in a way that words sometimes cannot. Research has shown that time spent with animals can help reduce stress, improve mood and even lower blood pressure. For those living with dementia, therapy animals can help ease anxiety, promote interaction and provide a reassuring sense of connection.

Encouraging Connection and Engagement
At Limewood, we’ve seen firsthand how visits from a therapy dog can gently encourage residents to engage more. Whether it’s through touch, conversation or simply by smiling and watching Max move from person to person. It’s a form of emotional connection that goes beyond language, making a lasting difference in the residents’ day.
A Positive Impact on Daily Life
Claire, Manager at Limewood, said:
“Max’s visits are always a highlight. You can see the effect instantly, with residents relaxing, lighting up and beginning chatting with each other. It’s heartwarming and such a powerful reminder of the simple things that bring joy and comfort.”

We’re grateful to welcome Max to Limewood and look forward to many more visits. These moments are part of what makes Limewood so special.
